Biodata – Malikah Popal, MD, MPH (Humphrey Fellow)
Malikah Popal is a physician, public health professional, and adult educator with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of healthcare, education, and refugee services. She earned her medical degree from Kabul Medical University and completed her fellowship in Public Health at Tulane University through the prestigious 2013–2014 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.
Since 2017, Malikah has been deeply involved in refugee support initiatives in the United States, serving as an educator, interpreter, health advocate, and community leader. She recently completed her Adult Education Credential (California, 2024) and taught English to immigrant and refugee adults, including through remote instruction. Her work emphasizes culturally responsive education, trauma-informed support, and community empowerment.
Multilingual in Pashto, Farsi, and Urdu, she brings a strong voice to advocacy for language access, equity in education, and inclusive curriculum development. She has been working as a board member for multiple organizations focused on refugee engagement and support. She draws on her experience as both a healthcare professional and educator to support strategic planning, program development, and outreach to underserved populations.
